Otapanje polova polovinom 21. veka uništilo je većinu gradova i stanovništva, što navodi prof. Allena Hobbyja (Wiliam Hurt) da stvori robota obdarenog veštačkom inteligencijom: Davida (Haley Joel Osment). Međutim, problemi nastaju kada bračni par koji je "usvojio" Davida uviđa da on nije običan robot lišen emocija, već programiran da voli i oseća. David ubrzo ostaje sam u okrutnom svetu, jer ga "majka" ostavlja. Tu počinje Davidova avantura i njegova samospoznaja uz pomoć svog novog druga, robota Gigolo Joea (Jude Law)...

Zanimljivosti:
- Kad je počeo rad na filmu 1993, Joseph Mazello je tumačio ulogu Davida.
- Stanley Kubrick je radio na projektu 12 godina pre smrti, ali je u međuvremenu odlučio da ostavi režiju Stevenu Spielbergu, govoreći da je 'to bliže njegovim osećajima'. Njih dvojica su sarađivali godinama, i Kubrick je Spielbergu dao kompletan uvid u film, i dosta koncepcija za njega, ubrzo pre njegove smrti.
- Haley Joel Osment je sugerisao Stevenu Spielbergu da njegov lik (David) ne bi trebao da trepće. Spielberg se složio s tim i otišao dalje govoreći da nijedan robot ne treba da trepće. U stvari, neki od njih (usled neperfekcije).
- Spielberg je upotrebio aparaturu za vodene efekte iz 'The Perfect Storm' (2000) da bi snimio budućnost poplavljenog sveta u ovom filmu.
- Iako je A.I. baziran na kratkoj priči 'Supertoys Last All Summer Long', ta priča je imala manje uticaja na film nego poznata pesma W.B. Yeatsa, 'The Stolen Child'; delovi pesme se pojavljuju u filmu na dva mesta.
- Jedan od razloga što je Stanley Kubrick čekao toliko dugo da snimi film, jeste taj što je hteo da Davida (lika Haley Joel Osment) glumi robot.
- Na hotelu u koji Joe Gigolo ulazi, kada se prvi put upoznajemo sa likom, stoji neonski natpis na jevrejskom 'Ahava Kshera' (Kosher Love).
- Film je u početku trebao da se zove samo A.I., ali je posle utvrđeno da previše ljudi misli da je u pitanju A.1. Naslov je promenjen u A.I. Artificial Intelligence, da ljudi ne bi mislili da je u pitanju sos za stek.
- Na veliki broj promo-materijala koji je poslat u bioskope (posteri, bilbordi, itd.) ime Stevena Spielberga je bilo pogrešno napisano u 'Stephen'.
- U filmu su prikazane zgrade bliznakinje Svetskog Trgovinskog Centra kako još uvek stoje i 2.000 godina u budućnosti.
- Julianne Moore je bila uzeta u obzir za ulogu Monice.
- U filmu se nalazi veći broj trejdmarki Stanley Kubricka. Među njima su naracija na početku; prikaz dehumanizacije i mračna strana ljudske prirode; snimci uzduž visokih, paralelnih zidova i 'Sjaj', sa Davidovom nagnutom glavom i očima koje gledaju nagore; scena u kupatilu; trodimenzionalni konflikt između Davida, Monice i Martina; upotreba kompozicije Richarda Straussa 'Kavaljer sa ružama'.
- Ovo bi bio prvi deo Spielbergove neoficinalne 'trkačke' trilogije, na koju se nastavlja 'Minority Report' (2002) i 'Catch Me If You Can' (2002).
