Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger) je udata pevačica koja ima potencijala da postane vodilja u Vaudevillu. Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) je bivša vodilja. Šta one dve imaju zajedničko? Obe su smrtonosne. Roxie je ubila svog ljubavnika kad je pokušao da je ostavi, a Velma je ubila muža i sestru jer su bili ljubavnici. Novine obožavaju Velmu sve dok Roxie ne nastupa na scenu i tera Velmu u prošlost. One se ne takmiče samo za pažnju medija, nego i za pažnju zajedničkog advokata, otmenog Billyja Flynna (Richard Gere). Zanimljivosti:
- John Travolta, Kevin Spacey i Hugh Jackman su dolazili u obzir za ulogu Billyja Flynna.
- Chita Rivera (Nickie) je stvorila lik Velme Kelly u originalnoj Brodvej produkciji 'Chicaga' 1975. godine. 90-tih godina je glumila Roxie Hart u londonskoj produkciji velikog povratka Chicaga.
- Madonna, Goldie Hawn, Kathy Bates, Rosie O'Donnel, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz i Britney Spears su sve bile razmatrane za uloge u filmu.
- Režiser je želeo da Catherine Zeta-Jones u filmu ima svoju dugačku prirodnu kosu, ali ona je insistirala na kratkoj bob frizuri. Časopisu People je objasnila da nije želela da joj kosa pada preko lica i da ljudi posumnjaju da celokupni dance show nije odradila sama.
- Hunyakin govor, preveden, glasi: 'Šta ja radim ovde? Kažu da je moj poznati unajmljenik držao mog muža i odsekao mu glavu. Ali to nije istina. Ja sam nevina. - Uloga Billyja Flynna je nekoliko puta bila ponuđena Johnu Travolti.
- U filmu Billy Flynn oslovljava lika Johna C. O'Reillyja, Amosa, sa 'Andy' - ovo se odnosi na radio emisiju 'Amos'n'Andy'.
- Ovo je četvrti film koji je John Travolta odbio da radi, a Richard Gere prihvatio. Među njima su 'American Gigolo' (1980), 'Days of Heaven' (1978) i 'An Officir and a Gentleman' (1982).
