Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) je prosečna žena koja se bori protiv svojih godina, težine, posla, neuspešnih veza sa muškarcima i mnogim drugim problemima. Za Novu Godinu, ona odlučuje da preuzme kontrolu nad svojim životom, tako što počinje da piše dnevnik u kome će uvek govoriti samo istinu. Zaplet počinje kada se njen šarmantni šef (Hugh Grant) zainteresuje za nju. Usponi i padovi njihovog nesuđenog odnosa pokazaće se u isto vreme i veoma smešni, ali i dirljivi. U celu stvar su, umešani i vrlo ekscentrični prijatelji Bridget i prilično nametljiv poznanik Mark (Colin Firth), dosadan, ali u isto vreme za nju i neodoljiv...

- Renee Zellweger je morala da se ugoji 11.34 kg da bi glumila Bridget Jones.
- Renee Zellweger u filmu puši biljne cigarete umesto duvana.
